This used to Bar Vino, one of our favorite places. However, when Chef Greg Elliott assumed command of the Left Coast restaurants in Calistoga he transformed this lovely spot into a beautiful room featuring brilliantly prepared Italian trattoria type cuisine. The house made lasagna and spaghetti with meatballs are wonderful, as is the braised short rib and mushroom pizza. But for our money splurge on the truffle fries and cast iron skillet mussels. As it has always been here, the wine list is filled with smaller production, delicious selections. If Barolo was in Napa or Yountville, you could not get in, but Calistoga is less crowded and so this becomes an excellent destination in which to relax and have a superior evening.
