Mumm is Still the Word
So many places to choose from in Napa. So much to do. How does one make a choice? What places are significantly unique? These are the questions that go through the mind of almost every potential Napa visitor, and, for some they are never answered satisfactorily. For those who do their research, however, one word can do it – Mumm (or better yet, two words – Mumm Napa).
Reason 1: The Sparkling Wines are Brilliant 
You might know that while we in the United States are not bound by treaties to call Sparkling Wines by that nomenclature (in other words, we can call them “Champagne” if we want), most American writers and knowledgeable cosumers today honor the pacts signed by the rest of the world and refer to the libation as Sparkling Wine. Actually, “Bubbles” is the most common term used in wine country and by wine people, but Sparkling Wine is technically correct. To put it simply, all Champagnes are sparkling wines, but all sparkling wines are not Champagne since they are not produced in that noted French region. NEVERTHELESS, bubbles from the best U.S. houses are made in exactly the same way as they are in France (Methode Champenoise/Methode Traditionelle), and many say they are often better because California’s superior weather usually allows for better ripening of the grapes – meaning sweeter fruit.
With all of that being said, the one word all agree on when describing the bubbles being served at Mumm Napa is brilliant. The DVX, which took a Best of Class award at the American Fine Wine Competition, is one of our favorite Sparklers in the world (the almost ridiculous low $65 price makes it even more desirable). The DVX Rose is rarely matched in flavor or sophistication by any other competitor’s Rose, and the Brut Reserve, at only about $38, is one of the best flavor-to-price ratio wines ever produced. There are many more Sparkling Wines available, and you can, and really should, choose from a long list.
Reason 2: The Setting is Beautiful
You may choose to sit inside or out, though most choose the former so they can bask in the beautiful Napa sunshine and dry weather. Regardless of your choice, however, the views of the endless grapevines that cover the Valley to the west, and the majestic mountains in the distance, are awe inspiring.
Reason 3: The Art Galleries are Impressive
Why not sip the best bubbly and take a walk through the cool (in both temperature and descriptive) galleries? Napa is all about culture, and wine is only part of it. Here you can view many of the Ansel Adams photographs, which are part of the permanent exhibit, or marvel at whatever paintings/ slides/photographs or other unique collections are offered on a changing basis. Allow an extra 30 minutes or so to view the halls of art. 
Reason 4: The Educational Opportunities are Second to None
The staff at Mumm Napa does not just pour and serve you sparkling wine – they are specialists who can teach you about the nature of the entire process behind the crafting of this most beautiful of drinks. Tours are available (usually, and always on weekends) advance notice is required to take advantage of this sought after experience.
Reason 5: The Gift Shop
There are gift shops, and then there are gift shops. All we can say is that you should be prepared to allow a little extra time for some members of your party to peruse the store at Mumm Napa, where not only the Bubbles are sold, but all sorts of enticing and interest-grabbing gifts are on display. Rarely have we seen visitors walk out empty handed.
Reason 6: The Intangible
A visit to Mumm Napa can be described best in mathematical terms. The whole is even greater than the sum of its parts. Ambiance, Product, Opportunity, and Hospitality all come together to make this one of Napa Valley’s premiere experiences. Mumm is still the word.
NOTE: Surprisingly to some, Mumm Napa also makes two superior still wines - a Pinot Noir and a Chardonnay. Both have won prestigious awards in blind tastings, and while they are not as prominent in the Mumm portfolio as are all the marvelous Sparklers, ask for these as well.
